Management 425 Managerial Decision
Making
This course is about Managerial Decision Making and Complex
Problem-Solving. Higher level managers must deal with large numbers of
people, objectives and variables, and still make good decisions quickly.
Speed and judgment in decision making come from knowledge, practice and
experience. Knowledge of decision making and problem solving includes a
familiarity with techniques and devices, but more importantly a knowledge
of self, of others, and of the nature of the environment within which the
decision making will take place. This course is about gaining that
knowledge.
Management 465 Management Internship
This course grants academic credit for work experience in an organization
involving on-the-job training in management-related areas. The intention
is to expose students to aspects of management that they would not
otherwise encounter in the course of their college experience, as
preparation for employment upon graduation as a management trainee. It
is therefore necessary for the student to be in some way involved in, or
exposed to, the management-related tasks/activities of the business or
organization at which the student is employed as an intern. To insure
that internships meet the necessary educational requirements, the
instructor must approve each internship individually, hence student
consultation with the instructor is required before a student may enroll.
Employer consultation with the instructor is available, but not required.
Management 470 Seminar in Management
This course is a seminar intended to address and explore special topics
beyond those usually covered in traditional textbooks. Thus, although
some readings and lecture will be provided in the early part of the
course by the instructor, later in the semester students will be
contributing from their own readings and integration of the subject.
Management 474 Small Business
Management
This course examines the decision process of starting a new business.
Topics covered include the role of small business in society;
characteristics of small business owners; problems, opportunities,
advantages, and disadvantages of being in small business. The process of
writing a complete business plan is a major focus of the course.
Management 490 Business Policy and
Strategy
This course is intended to be a challenging and exciting capstone course
for the undergraduate business school curriculum. It is first and
foremost a course about " strategy " and about " managing
success. " The course centers around the theme that a company
achieves sustained success if and only if its mangers (1) develop, and
revise as needed, an action-oriented strategic plan and (2) implement and
execute the plan with some proficiency. This plan manifests itself as
the "business policy" the company follows, hence the title of the
course.
